It was a cold, wet, and rainy day for all the competitors at Geneva, Ohio for the first day of competition at the D3 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Ultimately, this weather played a huge factor into not only how well Augustana performed, but effected all performances around the board.

Augustana Write-Up

NOTE: I do apologize for these initial videos. The quality is really sub-par but wanted to get something out as quickly as possible. I will hopefully be able to get you a better quality one probably by tomorrow morning sometime.

Discus – Men’s:

The competition was deep in this year’s Men’s Discus throw. I am not going to lie… It was a terrible day for the Discus throwers. The number one seeded throw was over 57 meters, and he only threw 51.56m… So that gives you an idea of how bad it was out there today. Anyways, Ethan Ehlers was able to heave out a 43.95 meters (144 feet 2 inches) for a finishing place of 16. Not bad for his first National meet appearance! Great work!

NO VIDEO – NCAA did not have camera on the Discus throw… sorry about that

400M HURDLES – MEN’S

Another strong field for our competitor Josh Yamamoto to go up against. In last years competition, he was ranked 17th and finished 15th with a time of 54.43. Josh came into today’s competition ranked 3rd overall. He bested his last year’s performance time and place at 53.76 and 11th respectively. Great job Josh!

3000M Steeplechase – Men’s

Sophomore Brandon Wilkerson has had an impressive season at Augie and is a first time qualifier for the National meet. He came in ranked 17th in the Nation and finished 17 overall with a time of 9:28.99. Great job Brandon and we hope to see you in next year’s final!

4x400M Relay – Men’s

Augustana has always been a strong contender in the 4x400M Race. Even going back way to 2012 when I was on the 4x400M Relay team that ran 3:10.70 for a 2nd place finish, the competition was and always will be fierce. Last year, the team ran an impressive 3:12.95… and didn’t even qualify! This year, the team of Josh Yamamoto (JR), Jeffrey Swanson (JR), Kyle Hucker (JR), and Isaac Smith (SR) qualified in a time of 3:14.14. They will be running in lane 9 on Saturday @ 4:00pm EST. Congrats Augie and way to get after it!
